Description

Create beautiful and colorful Borax crystals at home while exploring the science of crystallization.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons Borax powder
  • 1 cup Water
  • Heat-resistant container or jar (glass or ceramic)
  • String or pipe cleaner (for crystal formation)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Spoon (for mixing)
  • Heat source (stove or kettle)
  • Measuring cup

Instructions

  1. Boil 1 cup of water in a pot until it reaches boiling.
  2. Slowly stir in 3 tablespoons of Borax until fully dissolved.
  3. If desired, mix in a few drops of food coloring.
  4. Prepare a clean, heat-resistant jar for the crystals to grow.
  5. Tie one end of the string or pipe cleaner to a pencil and suspend it in the solution without touching the bottom.
  6. Allow the solution to sit undisturbed at room temperature for crystallization, which can take several hours to overnight.
  7. Observe the growth of tiny crystals along the string or pipe cleaner.

Notes

Use more Borax and let the solution sit longer for larger crystals. Experiment with different colors for unique effects.
