Description

Create stunning homemade Borax crystals by combining simple ingredients and a bit of patience. This craft blends fun with science, making it a great family activity.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Borax (sodium borate)
  • 3 cups water
  • Heat-resistant container (like a glass jar)
  • String or thread
  • Pencil or stick (for hanging)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Small pot for boiling water
  • Spoon for stirring

Instructions

  1. Boil three cups of water in a small pot.
  2. Gradually add one cup of Borax to the boiling water, stirring continuously until fully dissolved. If desired, add food coloring.
  3. Carefully pour the solution into a heat-resistant container.
  4. Tie one end of the string around the pencil or stick and hang it into the solution, ensuring it’s submerged but not touching the bottom.
  5. Place the container in a cool, undisturbed area and wait for at least 24 hours to see crystals form.
  6. After sufficient growth, carefully remove the string and crystals from the solution and place them on a paper towel to dry.

Notes

Experiment with different colors and shapes for unique crystal designs. Adult supervision is recommended for children due to boiling water.
