- 1 cup Borax (sodium borate)
- 3 cups water
- Heat-resistant container (like a glass jar)
- String or thread
- Pencil or stick (for hanging)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Small pot for boiling water
- Spoon for stirring
Instructions
- Boil three cups of water in a small pot.
- Gradually add one cup of Borax to the boiling water, stirring continuously until fully dissolved. If desired, add food coloring.
- Carefully pour the solution into a heat-resistant container.
- Tie one end of the string around the pencil or stick and hang it into the solution, ensuring it’s submerged but not touching the bottom.
- Place the container in a cool, undisturbed area and wait for at least 24 hours to see crystals form.
- After sufficient growth, carefully remove the string and crystals from the solution and place them on a paper towel to dry.
Notes
Experiment with different colors and shapes for unique crystal designs. Adult supervision is recommended for children due to boiling water.
