Description

Create your own bird feeders using recyclable materials. Simple, fun, and customizable for all ages.

Ingredients

  • Pine cones or empty toilet paper rolls
  • Peanut butter or vegetable shortening
  • Birdseed (mixed seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.)
  • Twine or string (for hanging)
  • Optional: Food coloring (for decoration)
  • Optional: Paint or natural embellishments (like leaves or twigs)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Base: Choose your base, like a pine cone or a toilet paper roll. If using a roll, cover it with a layer of peanut butter or vegetable shortening.
  2. Coat with Birdseed: Roll the coated base in a bowl of birdseed. Press down gently to ensure the seeds stick well.
  3. Add Twine for Hanging: Cut a piece of twine or string about 1–2 feet long. Loop it through the top of your feeder (the pine cone or the ends of the roll) and tie a secure knot to create a hanger.
  4. Decorate (Optional): Use food coloring, paint, or natural embellishments to add personal flair. Allow any added decorations to dry completely before proceeding.
  5. Hang Your Feeder: Find a suitable location in your garden or yard. Hang your bird feeder from a tree branch or hook where birds can easily access it.

Notes

Consider making multiple feeders for variety and use different birdseed blends to attract various bird species.
