Description

Create a handprint American flag craft to celebrate patriotism while fostering creativity in children.

Ingredients

  • Red, white, and blue non-toxic paint (washable preferred)
  • Large white construction paper or canvas
  • Paintbrushes
  • Paper plates (to use as paint palettes)
  • Baby wipes or a damp cloth (for clean-up)
  • Optional: glitter for added sparkle

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by laying down newspaper or an old tablecloth to protect the surface. Set out all materials within easy reach.
  2. Create the blue field by applying blue paint to the top left corner of the paper, about one-third of the width and half the height of the paper.
  3. Print your handprints by dipping one hand in red paint and pressing it firmly next to the blue field. Alternate with white paint for the next handprint. Encourage kids to add as many handprints as they want to fill the flag.
  4. Allow the handprints to dry completely. Optionally, sprinkle glitter on the blue area to mimic stars or add additional decorations.
  5. Clean up using baby wipes or a damp cloth to clean hands and the workspace.

Notes

Ideal for children aged 3 and older; adult supervision recommended. Consider using sponge brushes or stencil shapes for different textures.
