Description

A delightful craft project that combines chemistry and creativity to make beautiful snowflake-shaped crystals.

Ingredients

  • Pipe cleaners (white or blue)
  • Borax powder (1/4 cup)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • Glass jar or heat-resistant container
  • String or thread
  • Stirring spoon
  • Craft stick (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Snowflake Shape: Twist 3 pipe cleaners together to resemble a snowflake. Trim the ends if needed.
  2. Prepare the Borax Solution: Heat 2 cups of water until hot, add 1/4 cup borax powder, and stir until dissolved.
  3. Attach the Snowflake: Tie a string to the snowflake and suspend it in the jar with the string, ensuring it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom.
  4. Let the Crystals Grow: Allow the jar to sit undisturbed for several hours or overnight.
  5. Remove and Dry: Carefully remove the snowflake and dry it on wax paper.

Notes

Add food coloring to the solution for colorful crystals and experiment with different shapes for varied results.
