Ingredients

  • Water
  • Borax (1/2 cup)
  • Pipe cleaners (white or any color)
  • String
  • Pencil or stick (for hanging the snowflake)
  • Boiling water
  • A glass jar or bowl
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Create the snowflake shape by twisting several pipe cleaners together.
  2. Boil about 2 cups of water and stir in ½ cup of borax until dissolved.
  3. Add a few drops of food coloring into the solution, if desired.
  4. Tie a string around the center of the snowflake and hang it in the solution using a pencil.
  5. Allow the snowflake to sit undisturbed in the solution for 6-24 hours.
  6. Once finished, carefully remove the snowflake and let it dry completely.

Notes

Try using Epsom salt for different crystal shapes. Experiment with colors and shapes to personalize your snowflakes.
