Description

Create a beautiful growing crystal snowman with this fun and educational craft project that combines art and science.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 tablespoons of Borax
  • A clean jar or glass container
  • Pipe cleaners (white works best)
  • A spoon for stirring
  • A pencil or stick (to hold the snowman)
  • Optional: Food coloring (for decorative accents)

Instructions

  1. Create the Snowman Shape: Twist pipe cleaners into a snowman shape (3 balls for the body and head) and suspend it in the jar using a pencil or stick.
  2. Prepare the Borax Solution: Heat 1 cup of water until almost boiling; mix in 3 tablespoons of Borax until fully dissolved.
  3. Submerge the Snowman: Carefully pour the Borax solution into the jar until the snowman is just submerged.
  4. Wait and Watch: Place the jar in a quiet area and leave it overnight (or longer) to allow crystals to form.
  5. Reveal Your Creation: Gently remove the snowman the next day and rinse with cold water to remove excess Borax before displaying.

Notes

Add food coloring for a colorful twist or use small beads as decorative accents.
