Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Borax (sodium borate)
  • 2 cups water
  • String
  • Pencil or stick
  • Glass jar or bowl
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon for stirring

Instructions

  1. Boil 2 cups of water in a pot.
  2. Gradually add 1 cup of Borax, stirring continuously until dissolved.
  3. Cut a length of string, about 12 inches long, and tie one end around your ornament shape.
  4. Place a pencil across the top of the jar to suspend the string.
  5. Pour the Borax solution into the jar, ensuring the ornament is submerged.
  6. Set the jar in a warm, undisturbed location for crystals to grow, ideally for 24 hours.
  7. Carefully remove the ornament, rinse with water, and let it dry.
