Description

A fun and educational craft project that teaches crystallization and geology while creating stunning crystal formations at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of hot water
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • 1 tablespoon of alum
  • Small jars or containers (glass or plastic)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Cotton balls or paper towels (for covering the jars)

Instructions

  1. In a heat-safe container, mix 1 cup of sugar with 1/2 cup of hot water until completely dissolved.
  2. Divide the sugar solution into smaller jars and add food coloring; stir gently.
  3. Insert a wooden skewer into each jar, ensuring it is submerged but not touching the bottom.
  4. Cover the jars with a cotton ball or paper towel to avoid dust contamination.
  5. Place the jars in a stable environment, check daily for crystal formation.
  6. Once satisfied with crystal size, remove the skewer and allow crystals to dry.

Notes

Customize colors and experiment with different ingredients for unique results. Store finished geodes in a cool, dry place.
