Description
Create a stunning green crystal tree with simple household materials for a fun and educational experience.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of water
- 3 cups of sugar (or salt for a different texture)
- 1 heat-resistant glass container
- 1 wooden stick or twig for the tree trunk
- Cardboard or stiff paper for the tree base
- Food coloring (green, yellow, or desired color)
- Spoon for stirring
- A stove or hot plate for heating
Instructions
- Prepare the tree base by cutting cardboard into a sturdy base, around 6-8 inches wide, and secure the wooden stick upright in the center with tape or glue.
- In a heat-resistant glass container, bring 1 cup of water to a boil on the stove. Gradually pour in 3 cups of sugar while stirring continuously until dissolved.
- Remove the solution from heat and add food coloring, stirring well.
- Carefully pour the colored solution over the wooden stick in the base, ensuring it’s submerged.
- Allow the setup to sit undisturbed in a cool location.
- Over the next few days, observe crystal growth, taking care to look for sparkling formations.
- Once crystals reach desired size (typically 3-7 days), carefully remove the tree from the solution and allow it to dry before displaying.
Notes
For different textures, try using epsom salt instead of sugar. Customize color by blending different food colors.
