Description
An exciting and educational craft that demonstrates a chemical reaction with a glowing volcanic eruption, perfect for kids.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Baking soda
- 1 cup White vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Dish soap
- Food coloring (any color; optional)
- Glow-in-the-dark paint or glow sticks
- A container or bottle (for the volcano structure)
- Tray (to catch overflow)
- Plastic pipette (for adding vinegar)
- Water (optional, to thin paint if using)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Volcano Structure
Choose a clean, dry container (like a plastic bottle) to act as your volcano. Place the container on a tray to catch any overflowing materials. Build a mound of clay or playdough around the container to resemble a volcano shape. - Mix the Glowing Ingredients
In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of dish soap. Add a few drops of food coloring if you’d like your eruption to have some color. - Paint the outside of your volcano structure with glow-in-the-dark paint for added effect. Allow the paint to dry completely before the next step.
- Create the Eruption!
When ready to erupt, use a pipette to add 1 cup of vinegar to the container inside your volcano. Watch as the magical eruption begins, with foamy lava spilling out and glowing with excitement!
Notes
Experiment with different food coloring combinations for varied colors in your eruption. Consider decorating your volcano for themed parties.
