Ingredients
Scale
- Clear glass or plastic jar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- Food coloring (your choice of colors)
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- Vinegar
- Glow-in-the-dark paint (optional)
- Small flashlight or UV light (for glowing effect)
- Funnel (optional)
- Spoon for mixing
Instructions
- Begin with a clean, dry jar. Use the funnel to pour 1/2 cup of water into the jar.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the water and stir gently with a spoon to mix the color thoroughly.
- Slowly pour 1 cup of vegetable oil into the jar and observe how it floats on top of the water, creating a distinct layer.
- In a separate bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with a few additional drops of food coloring and carefully add this mixture to your jar. Watch as it bubbles and fizzes, resembling volcanic activity!
- If desired, add a layer of glow-in-the-dark paint to the top of the oil, or shine a flashlight or UV light on the jar in a dark environment to enhance the glow effect.
- Turn off the lights to see your Glow Volcano Lava Jar come to life. Shake gently to re-activate the lava effect!
