Description

An exciting and educational craft that combines science with fun by creating a glow-in-the-dark volcanic eruption.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint or powder
  • Plastic container (like a small bottle)
  • Tray or sheet to catch spills
  • Optional: decorative materials (like sand or toy dinosaurs)

Instructions

  1. Choose your Volcano Base: Start by selecting a plastic container to serve as the volcano’s core.
  2. Add Glow-in-the-Dark Elements: Carefully paint the outer part of the container with glow-in-the-dark paint or sprinkle in the powder to create your volcano’s exterior.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In another bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and your desired food coloring.
  4. Transfer the mixture into your prepared container, ensuring it’s situated on a tray to catch spills.
  5. Slowly pour 1 cup of vinegar into the container with the baking soda mixture.
  6. Observe the chemical reaction as your volcano erupts! It will bubble and foam, creating a ‘lava’ effect.

Notes

Customize your eruption by experimenting with different food colors and materials. Ensure supervision when kids are involved.
