A fun and educational craft to create glowing fireflies using simple materials, perfect for all ages.
Ingredients
- Glow-in-the-dark paint or powder
- Small mason jars or glass containers
- Wire (for firefly antennae)
- LED tea lights or small battery-operated lights
- Craft paper or colored paper (for wings)
- Scissors
- Pipe cleaners (optional)
- Green floral tape or washi tape (for decoration)
- Paintbrush (if using paint)
- Hot glue gun (with adult supervision)
Instructions
- Preparation: Lay down newspapers or a plastic sheet to protect surfaces. Gather materials.
- Make the Wings: Cut out wing shapes from craft paper, making two per firefly.
- Paint the Body: Use glow-in-the-dark paint on the mason jar; apply at least two coats, allowing to dry.
- Assemble: Attach wings using hot glue. Create antennae with pipe cleaners if desired.
- Insert Light: Place the LED tea light inside the jar, ensuring it’s on.
- Decorate the Base: Wrap floral tape around the base of the jar.
- Charge the Glow: Expose the jar to light to charge the glow paint.
Notes
Adult supervision is required when using a hot glue gun. Feel free to personalize your fireflies with different colors and designs.
