Description
Create stunning glow-in-the-dark crystal flowers with this fun and engaging craft project that combines science and artistic expression.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Borax
- 2 cups Water
- Pipe cleaners (various colors)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Glass jar or bowl
- String or fishing line (for hanging)
- Small pot for heating water
- Stirring spoon
- Gloves (optional, for handling materials)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pipe Cleaners: Shape your pipe cleaners into flower petals and stems. Get creative with the designs!
- Make the Borax Solution: Measure 1 cup of borax and 2 cups of hot water in a pot. Heat the water until it’s almost boiling, but don’t let it boil. Stir the mixture until the borax is completely dissolved.
- Add Color (Optional): If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the solution for colorful crystals. Mix gently to distribute the color evenly.
- Submerge the Flowers: Carefully place your pipe cleaner creations into the borax solution. Make sure they’re fully submerged but not touching each other.
- Let It Sit: Leave the flowers in the solution for 6-12 hours. Observe the formation of tiny crystals around the pipe cleaners as they sit.
- Remove and Dry: Once ready, carefully lift them out and let excess solution drip off. Place them on a paper towel and allow them to dry completely.
Notes
Consider making a bouquet of various flower types and colors for a vibrant display. Use string or fishing line to hang the flowers in front of a window to catch sunlight during the day.
