Description
Make delightful and sparkly ornaments using a simple cornstarch dough that’s perfect for sensory play and personalization.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1.5 cups water
- Glitter (your choice of colors)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Mixing bowl
- Saucepan
- Rolling pin
- Cookie cutters (for shapes)
- Oven (or air drying time)
- Wax paper (for surface protection)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch and baking soda. Gradually add water while stirring until smooth.
- Pour the mixture into a saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until it thickens and forms a ball (about 5-10 minutes).
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Knead the dough until smooth.
- Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thickness and use cookie cutters to create shapes, poking holes at the top for hanging.
- For oven drying, preheat to 200°F (93°C) and bake ornaments for 1-2 hours until hard. For air drying, let them sit for 24-48 hours.
- Once dry, apply glitter. Secure the glitter with glue or varnish if desired. Thread ribbon or string through the holes for hanging.
Notes
Consider experimenting with different types of glitter or food coloring to create unique designs. Scented ornaments can be made by adding essential oils to the dough.
