Description
A warm and fluffy buttermilk biscuit recipe that evokes nostalgia and is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and work it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the cold buttermilk (and honey, if using). Stir gently until just combined.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick and fold over itself two or three times. Roll it out to 1-inch thickness again and cut out biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and enjoy warm with butter or jam.
Notes
For variations, consider adding shredded cheese or herbs for a savory twist. Gluten-free and dairy-free options are also available.
