Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and molasses until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a stiff dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer them to parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until firm.
- Let the ornaments cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cool, decorate with royal icing and create holes for hanging.
