Description

Create a mesmerizing galaxy in a jar that combines art and science through swirling colors and cloud-like formations.


Ingredients

  • Clear glass or plastic jar (with a lid)
  • Water
  • Clear corn syrup
  • Food coloring (blue, purple, and white)
  • Baby oil or vegetable oil
  • Cotton balls
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Small funnel or pipette

Instructions

  1. Start with a clean jar: Make sure it’s free of labels and residue.
  2. Add water: Fill the jar about halfway with warm water.
  3. Add corn syrup: Slowly pour in a layer of clear corn syrup on top of the water.
  4. Mix in food coloring: Use a pipette or a straw to squeeze a few drops of blue and purple food coloring.
  5. Insert cotton balls: Gently place cotton balls on top of the colored liquid for cloud effects.
  6. Add glitter: If desired, sprinkle a little glitter over the cotton for a starry effect.
  7. Top with baby oil: Slowly pour baby oil over the cotton.
  8. Seal the jar: Close it securely, and your galaxy rain cloud is complete.
