Description

Create charming and eco-friendly bird feeders using fruits and grains to attract a variety of species.

Ingredients

  • Whole fruit (e.g., apples, oranges, bananas)
  • Birdseed mix
  • Peanut butter (optional)
  • String or twine
  • Pine cones (optional)
  • Cookie cutters (for shaping)
  • Scissors
  • Baking sheet (for drying)

Instructions

  1. Choose your fruit: Pick safe fruits such as apples, oranges, and bananas.
  2. Slice or hollow out: Cut the fruits in half or scoop out some flesh to make a bowl.
  3. Coat with peanut butter: Spread peanut butter inside the hollowed-out fruit if desired.
  4. Sprinkle birdseed: Add birdseed onto the peanut butter or fruit flesh, pressing lightly.
  5. Thread the twine: Cut a length of string and thread it through the top of the fruit, tying a knot to create a hanging loop.
  6. Let it set: Place feeders on a baking sheet and let rest for a few hours or overnight.

Notes

Experiment with different fruits and nuts based on bird preferences. Use cookie cutters for unique shapes and add decorative edible colors for variety.
