Description

A fun DIY project for crafting your own bird feeders using fruit and grains to attract local birds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup birdseed (mixed seeds or specific types)
  • 1 cup dried fruit (e.g., raisins, cranberries, or apple bits)
  • 1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky)
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1-liter plastic bottle or empty toilet paper rolls
  • Twine or string for hanging
  • Scissors (if using plastic bottle)
  • A bowl for mixing ingredients

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by clearing a flat surface and gathering all materials.
  2. In a large bowl, combine birdseed, dried fruit, and rolled oats. Add peanut butter and mix to create a sticky mixture.
  3. If using a plastic bottle, cut it in half and make holes for seeds to fall out. Stuff the mixture into the bottom half of the bottle or pack it around the toilet paper roll.
  4. Cut twine and thread it through the top of the feeder, securing well.
  5. Hang your feeder in a visible spot and watch as birds discover it.

Notes

For a nut-free option, substitute peanut butter with shortening. Experiment with different fruits and container shapes for creativity.
