Description
Create stunning frozen ice crystal ornaments using simple household materials. This delightful winter craft is perfect for all ages and fosters creativity while teaching about crystallization.
Ingredients
- Water
- Clear plastic or glass jars (like mason jars)
- Epsom salt (or sugar for a sweeter look)
- String or fishing line
- Scissors
- A heat source (like a stove or kettle)
- Flat surface for drying
Instructions
- Boil water in a kettle or pot.
- Slowly mix in Epsom salt until it’s saturated (no longer dissolving). Stir until the solution is clear and allow it to cool slightly.
- Pour the solution into clean, clear jars.
- Tie a piece of string to a pencil and rest the pencil across the top of the jar, allowing the string to hang into the solution. Ensure the string does not touch the bottom of the jar.
- Place the jars in a cool, undisturbed area for at least 24 hours.
- After 24-48 hours, gently remove the string to reveal beautiful crystals formed on the string.
- Allow crystals to dry on a flat surface. You can hang them with additional string or fishing line.
Notes
Add food coloring for colored crystals or use cookie cutters to shape your creations. Ensure crystals are kept in a dry environment to last longer.
