Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Optional toppings: sea salt, cinnamon sugar, sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, stir warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter and flour. Stir until a dough forms.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces, about 2 ounces each.
- Roll each piece into a long rope, twisting and shaping into flower petals.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil and add coarse sea salt. Boil each pretzel flower for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
- Place on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with optional toppings.
