Description

An exciting and colorful crafting activity that combines baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring to create effervescent rocks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Baking soda
  • 1/2 cup Vinegar
  • Various colors of Food coloring
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper or silicone mat
  • Ice cube tray (optional)
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine baking soda and cornstarch. Stir well until evenly mixed. In another bowl, combine water with a few drops of your chosen food coloring. Mix until the color is well blended.
  2. Slowly pour the colored water into the dry mixture while stirring continuously. Once well mixed, the consistency should be moldable but not overly wet. Form the mixture into small rock-like shapes or use an ice cube tray for uniformity. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  3. Allow the rock shapes to dry for a few hours or overnight. They should be hard to the touch once ready.
  4. To activate, place the dry fizzy rocks in a bowl and pour vinegar over them. Enjoy the display as they fizz and bubble, creating a colorful explosion!

Notes

Experiment with different food colors, scents, and shapes for personalized creations. Store dried rocks in an airtight container for longer shelf life.
