Description

A visually stunning and flavorful dessert that combines fluffy cake layers, creamy frosting, and crunchy sprinkles, perfect for celebrations and everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • 4 cups frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Rainbow sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy in a separate bowl.
  4. Add eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter into separate bowls for coloring (4-6 depending on colors) and mix different food colorings into each bowl.
  8. Pour each colored batter into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Level the tops of the cooled cakes. Place the first layer on a serving plate and spread frosting evenly on top.
  11. Add the second layer and repeat the frosting process. Finally, top with the last layer and cover the entire cake with frosting.
  12. Generously sprinkle rainbow sprinkles on top for a festive finish.

Notes

For gluten-free, substitute gluten-free flour. Can be made ahead by storing baked cakes in the fridge or freezer.
