- 1 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red and blue food coloring
- 1 cup candy sprinkles (optional)
- Parchment paper
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn kernels until fully popped and place in a large mixing bowl.
- In a small saucepan, combine melted butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Heat and stir until it reaches a boil, then boil for 4-5 minutes until it turns light caramel color.
- Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla extract. Divide the mixture, adding red food coloring to one bowl and blue to the other.
- Drizzle the colored mixtures over the popcorn and gently toss to coat.
- Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Spread coated popcorn onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven, let cool, and optionally sprinkle with candy.
Notes
For a healthier version, use air-popped popcorn and reduce sugar. Customizable with different flavors and toppings.
