Description

A fun and festive snack combining buttery popcorn with colorful candied sweetness and a hint of spice, perfect for celebrations or movie nights.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • 1 cup candy sprinkles (optional)
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn kernels until fully popped and place in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine melted butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Heat and stir until it reaches a boil, then boil for 4-5 minutes until it turns light caramel color.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla extract. Divide the mixture, adding red food coloring to one bowl and blue to the other.
  4. Drizzle the colored mixtures over the popcorn and gently toss to coat.
  5. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Spread coated popcorn onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven, let cool, and optionally sprinkle with candy.

Notes

For a healthier version, use air-popped popcorn and reduce sugar. Customizable with different flavors and toppings.
