Description

Engage in a fascinating journey of crystal growth using simple household ingredients. Perfect for families and science lovers alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 23 cups of sugar (or salt for salt crystals)
  • A heat-resistant pot
  • A stove or hot plate
  • A stirring spoon
  • A glass jar or bowl
  • String or a wooden stick
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Wax paper or aluminum foil

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of water into the pot and heat until almost boiling.
  2. Gradually stir in 2-3 cups of sugar (or salt) until fully dissolved to create a saturated solution.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for vibrant crystals.
  4. Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. Carefully pour the solution into the glass jar or bowl.
  6. Tie the string to the wooden stick and place it across the top of the jar, ensuring the string dangles into the liquid.
  7. Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area.
  8. Allow the solution to sit for several days and observe the changes.
  9. Check daily to see the growth of crystals on the string and at the bottom of the jar.
  10. Take photos to document your crystal growth journey.

Notes

Customize your crystals by using different food colorings and types of sugars. For larger crystals, decrease the temperature of the solution slowly.
