Description

Create your own exciting Exploding Sand Volcano to learn about chemical reactions in a fun and hands-on way!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 1 cup of sand
  • 1 teaspoon of dish soap
  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A small bottle or container (to serve as the volcano’s core)
  • A tray (to catch overflow)
  • Water (to adjust consistency if needed)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sand and baking soda together in a bowl to create the base. Mold the mixture into a cone shape around your bottle/container on the tray.
  2. Pour the dish soap into the core of your volcano.
  3. If using food coloring, add a few drops to the vinegar.
  4. Pour the colored vinegar into the core of your volcano. Take a step back and watch the explosion!
  5. Observe the reaction and repeat by adding more vinegar and baking soda as desired for more eruptions.

Notes

Customize with different colors and add glitter for a magical effect. Ensure adult supervision for safety.
