Description

A fun and engaging DIY project that combines culinary creativity with basic science, perfect for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large lemons
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon dish soap
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Serving tray or baking sheet
  • Small measuring spoons
  • Knife (for adults)
  • Spoon or stirring stick

Instructions

  1. Cut the tops off each lemon to create a “volcano” peak.
  2. Hollow out the lemons using a spoon to create space for the eruption.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix baking soda and dish soap.
  4. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture.
  5. Pour the mixture into the hollowed-out lemons.
  6. Stand back and watch the volcano erupt when the baking soda reacts with the lemon juice!

Notes

Consider adding vinegar for a fizzier explosion. Experiment with different citrus fruits or create mini volcanoes with limes.
