Ingredients
- Borax (1/2 cup)
- Water (2 cups)
- A clean glass jar or container
- A pipe cleaner (shaped like a snowflake)
- String
- A pencil or stick
- Food coloring (optional, for colored crystals)
Instructions
- Boil two cups of water in a pot.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup of borax to the boiling water, stirring until dissolved.
- If you want colored crystals, stir in a few drops of food coloring.
- Twist the pipe cleaner into a snowflake shape or any design you prefer.
- Tie a string to the top of the pipe cleaner shape.
- Tie the other end of the string to a pencil or stick, and suspend the pipe cleaner in the jar without it touching the bottom.
- Place the jar in a quiet, undisturbed location.
- Observe as crystals form on the pipe cleaner over the next few hours to days.
