Description

Create beautiful, sparkling crystals with this engaging and educational craft activity inspired by Disney’s Frozen.

Ingredients

  • Borax Powder
  • Water
  • Clear Glass Jar (12-16 oz)
  • String or Twine
  • Pencil or Popsicle Stick
  • Food Coloring (optional)
  • Heat-Resistant Container
  • Stirring Stick

Instructions

  1. Boil about 1 cup of water in a heat-resistant container.
  2. Slowly add 3 tablespoons of borax powder to the hot water. Stir continuously until all the borax dissolves. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for a whimsical touch.
  3. Take the glass jar and tie one end of the string to your pencil or popsicle stick. Make sure the string is long enough to hang down into the solution without touching the bottom of the jar.
  4. Carefully pour the borax solution into the glass jar, leaving some space at the top to avoid spills.
  5. Place the pencil across the top of the jar, allowing the string to dangle into the liquid. Make sure the string does not touch the sides of the jar.
  6. Place the jar in a location where it won’t be disturbed and allow it to sit undisturbed overnight. In a few hours, you’ll begin to see tiny crystals forming on the string.

Notes

Adult supervision is recommended for younger children. Customize colors and shapes for added creativity.
