Description

Create stunning egg geodes using simple materials and learn about crystal formation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Clean eggshells (halved and washed)
  • 3 tablespoons of borax (sodium borate)
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Small containers or bowls
  • Spoon
  • Tray or baking sheet (for drying)

Instructions

  1. Carefully wash and dry the eggshells, ensuring they’re free from any residue. Place them in a tray or on a baking sheet.
  2. In a small container, combine hot water with borax and stir until fully dissolved. Add a few drops of food coloring.
  3. Pour the borax solution into the eggshells, filling them about three-quarters full. Allow the eggshells to rest undisturbed for 24 hours.
  4. After 24 hours, carefully remove the eggshells from the tray to reveal the crystals.
  5. Scrape any extra crystals from the edges, and let them dry completely before displaying.

Notes

Experiment with color mixing and different sized eggs for unique designs. Adult supervision is recommended due to hot water and borax usage.
