Description

Create beautiful and sustainable bioplastic suncatchers using kitchen ingredients for a fun and engaging project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • Natural food coloring (optional)
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • Cookie cutters (various shapes)
  • A pot for cooking
  • A spoon for mixing
  • A baking tray

Instructions

  1. Prepare your work area by laying down wax paper on a flat surface.
  2. In a pot, mix corn starch, water, and vinegar until combined.
  3. Place the pot on medium heat and stir consistently until the mixture thickens and becomes translucent (about 5–7 minutes).
  4. If desired, add a few drops of natural food coloring and stir well.
  5. Using cookie cutters, scoop blobs of the mixture onto the wax paper.
  6. Flatten them slightly for uniform thickness. Optionally, use a straw to make a hole for hanging.
  7. Allow the suncatchers to cool and set for 24–48 hours until fully hardened.

Notes

Experiment with colors, shapes, and decorations. For quicker projects, consider air-drying the suncatchers in a warm room.
