Description

Create beautiful sun catchers using sustainable bioplastics and food coloring. This craft project is perfect for families and encourages creativity while being environmentally friendly.

Ingredients

  • Bioplastic sheets (cornstarch-based)
  • Natural or organic food coloring
  • Scissors
  • Baking sheet or flat surface
  • Oven or laminated press (if applicable)
  • Wax paper (for cooling)
  • String or suction cups (for hanging)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) if using heat to set your design.
  2. Cut bioplastic sheets into desired shapes (circles, hearts, etc.) using scissors.
  3. In small bowls, mix organic food coloring with water to achieve your desired shades.
  4. Dip or paint the bioplastic with the colors, making sure to leave some areas clear for light.
  5. Arrange your colored pieces on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the oven for 30 minutes or until the bioplastic hardens.
  7. Once cool, add string or suction cups for hanging.
  8. Test how the sun catcher looks in natural light!

Notes

For added customization, swap organic food coloring with natural dyes or incorporate small natural elements like dried flowers. This project is suitable for children with adult supervision.
