Description
Make charming salt dough cat ornaments with simple ingredients. Perfect for holiday décor or as personalized gifts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- Paint (acrylic or watercolor) for decoration
- Clear sealant (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt.
- Gradually add 1 cup of water, mixing until a dough forms. Use your hands for the best results!
- Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until it’s smooth and pliable.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a cat-shaped cookie cutter to cut out your ornaments, or create your own shapes with a knife.
- Make a small hole at the top of each ornament for hanging (a straw works well for this)!
- Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in a 200°F (93°C) oven for about 2-3 hours or until completely dry and hard.
- Let cool before decorating.
- Once completely cooled, use paint to decorate your ornaments however you desire.
- Allow the paint to dry completely. If desired, apply a clear sealant for longevity.
Notes
To prevent cracking during baking, ensure the dough is rolled evenly and baked slowly at a low temperature. Customize shapes and colors for fun variations.
