Ingredients

  • Small plastic ocean animal figures (e.g., fish, dolphins, sharks)
  • Water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Large container or bowl
  • Salt (for faster melting)
  • Tools for digging (e.g., spoons, plastic shovels)
  • Towels or mats for cleanup

Instructions

  1. Fill your large container or bowl with water.
  2. Add a few drops of food coloring if desired.
  3. Place the small ocean animal figures evenly spaced in the water.
  4. Carefully put the container in the freezer for several hours or overnight until fully frozen.
  5. Gather the tools for excavation and lay down towels or a mat.
  6. Remove the ice from the freezer, pop it out of the container, and place it on the prepared area.
  7. Hand your child the digging tools and let them begin the excavation.

Notes

Use different food coloring for a rainbow effect or swap out animals based on interests. Incorporate scents for added enjoyment.
