Create beautiful and personalized salt dough ornaments for home decor or as unique gifts. This fun and easy craft is perfect for all ages!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- Mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Rolling pin
- Cookie cutters (optional)
- Acrylic paints (for decorating)
- Clear sealant (optional for finishing)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add water while stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it’s smooth and pliable.
- On a clean surface, sprinkle some flour to prevent sticking. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to create shapes or simply mold by hand.
- Use a straw or skewer to poke a hole for hanging.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Place ornaments on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 2-3 hours until hard. You’ll know they’re ready when they feel solid and dry!
- Allow the ornaments to cool completely. Decorate with acrylic paints or markers once cooled.
Notes
Experiment with textures by pressing leaves or stamps into the dough. For a holiday scent, consider adding cinnamon to the dough.
