Description

A fun and easy DIY project for making customizable salt dough ornaments perfect for gifts and decorations.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

  • String or ribbon (for hanging)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt. Add 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  2. Mix Well: Stir until a dough forms; it should be slightly sticky but manageable.
  3. Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Roll Out the Dough: Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Cut Shapes: Use cookie cutters to create various shapes (stars, hearts, etc.).
  6. Make Holes: Carefully poke a hole at the top of each ornament with a straw for hanging.
  7. Prepare for Baking: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place your ornaments on it.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and bake for 2-3 hours until completely dry and hard.
  9. Cool Completely: Allow the ornaments to cool before decorating.
  10. Get Creative: Paint and embellish your ornaments as desired, using acrylic paints or markers.
  11. Add String: Thread string or ribbon through the holes for hanging.
