Description

Create beautiful and customizable decorations with this simple DIY salt dough ornament recipe, perfect for family activities and gifts.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups water
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Acrylic paint (optional)
  • Paintbrush (optional)
  • Ribbon or string (for hanging)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt.
  2. Gradually add 2 cups of water while stirring to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a clean surface until smooth and soft, about 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
  5. On a flat surface dusted with flour, roll the dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  6. Use cookie cutters to cut out festive shapes.
  7. Before baking, use a straw or toothpick to poke a hole at the top of each ornament for threading a ribbon later.
  8. Place the cutouts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for about 2-3 hours or until completely hardened. The ornaments should be firm to the touch.
  10. Once baked, allow the ornaments to cool completely.
  11. Paint or decorate as desired with acrylic paint.
  12. Once the paint is dry, thread a piece of ribbon or string through the holes.
  13. Hang your ornaments on the tree, around the house, or even give them as gifts!
