A fun and engaging DIY project that allows children to explore colors and textures by creating their own rainbow playdough.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cups water
- 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- Food coloring (various colors)
- Mixing bowls
- Saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Airtight jars for storage
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar. Stir until well mixed.
- In a saucepan, mix 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add your desired food coloring.
- On medium heat, pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir continuously with a wooden spoon as the mixture thickens.
- Once it forms into a ball, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Knead the dough until smooth and pliable.
- Divide the dough into portions for each color of the rainbow and knead in different food coloring.
- Layer small portions of each colored dough in clean, airtight jars.
Notes
For scented playdough, add essential oils to each batch. For an edible option, substitute all-purpose flour with powdered sugar.
