Description

Create a captivating DIY Rainbow Glow Lava Lamp that combines science with creativity, perfect for kids and adults.

Ingredients

  • Clear plastic bottle or jar
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or other effervescent tablets)
  • Flashlight (for glow effect)
  • Optional: Glow-in-the-dark paint (for extra glow)

Instructions

  1. Clean your container: Ensure it’s free from any residue.
  2. Fill the bottle: Add water until it’s about one-quarter full.
  3. Color your water: Mix in a few drops of food coloring. The more you add, the more vibrant it will be.
  4. Pour in the oil: Slowly add vegetable oil until the bottle is nearly full. Watch as it forms layers.
  5. Add fizz: Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into quarters. Drop one piece into the bottle and watch the bubbles rise.
  6. Repeat: For more lava action, continue adding pieces.
  7. Flashlight magic: Shine a flashlight underneath the bottle in the dark to see it glow.

Notes

Adult supervision recommended, especially when using tablets. Experiment with different combinations for unique effects.
