Description
Create unique and functional pottery with a DIY marbled mug project that allows for personal expression and creativity using simple materials.
Ingredients
- White ceramic mugs
- Nail polish (in your choice of colors)
- A shallow dish or pan (large enough to fit the mug)
- Warm water
- Toothpicks or skewer sticks
- Paper towels (for cleanup)
- Gloves (optional, to protect your hands)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Lay down paper towels to protect your surface from spills and drips.
- Fill the Dish with Water: Fill the shallow dish with warm water, leaving enough space to submerge the mug without overflowing.
- Add Nail Polish: Choose a few colors of nail polish and open them. Drizzle each color into the water, allowing it to spread and create a marbled effect.
- Swirl the Colors: Use a toothpick or skewer stick to gently swirl the colors together, creating beautiful patterns.
- Submerge the Mug: Slowly dip the mug into the water at an angle, moving it through the nail polish. Keep it submerged for a few seconds to ensure good coverage.
- Remove and Dry: Lift the mug out of the water and set it down on a paper towel to dry. Use a toothpick to clean up any excess nail polish on the outside.
- Cure the Mug: Let the mug sit for at least 24 hours to allow the nail polish to harden completely.
Notes
Consider sealing your mug with a clear acrylic spray if you want it to be dishwasher-safe. Experiment with color combinations and swirling techniques for unique patterns.
