Description

A fun and engaging experiment to create your own lava lamp while learning about basic scientific principles.

Ingredients

  • Clear plastic or glass bottle with a lid
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (your choice of colors)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or similar effervescent tablets)
  • Funnel (optional)
  • Glitter or small beads (optional, for extra fun)

Instructions

  1. Pour water into the bottle until it’s about one-quarter full.
  2. Carefully add vegetable oil to the bottle, filling it to about three-quarters full.
  3. Drop a few drops of food coloring into the bottle.
  4. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into smaller pieces.
  5. Drop one piece into the bottle and watch the reaction create colorful bubbles! Repeat with additional pieces for a longer show.
  6. Secure the lid on the bottle if you want to keep your lava lamp sealed.

Notes

Experiment with multiple colors and bottle shapes for unique effects. Ensure adult supervision if children are involved.
