Ingredients

  • Clear plastic or glass bottle with a cap
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil (or mineral oil)
  • Food coloring
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (or a similar fizzy tablet)
  • Funnel (optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean the bottle to ensure it is free from any residue.
  2. Use the funnel to fill the bottle about one-quarter full with water.
  3. Slowly pour vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
  4. Add a few drops of food coloring and watch it mix with the water.
  5. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into pieces and drop one piece into the bottle to create the lava effect.
  6. If desired, cap the bottle to avoid spills during movement.
