Description

A fun and eco-friendly DIY project for kids to create their own colorful lanterns using recycled materials.

Ingredients

  • Empty glass jars (e.g., mason jars)
  • Recycled paper (tissue paper, magazine pages)
  • Non-toxic glue or Mod Podge
  • Paintbrush
  • LED tealight candles or string lights
  • Scissors
  • String or ribbon (for hanging)
  • Optional: Washi tape, stickers, or other decorative elements

Instructions

  1. Clean the jars: Remove any labels and wash the jars thoroughly.
  2. Dry completely: Allow the jars to air dry, or use a cloth.
  3. Tear or cut recycled paper into small pieces to create decorative paper.
  4. Use a paintbrush to apply a thin layer of glue around the exterior of the jar.
  5. Place the torn paper pieces onto the glue, overlapping them slightly.
  6. Apply another layer of glue over the entire jar to seal the design.
  7. Let it dry completely for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Place an LED tealight candle inside the jar or add string lights for illumination.
  9. Decorate with washi tape, ribbon, or stickers if desired.
  10. Choose a display spot—whether a table centerpiece or hanging by a window!
