Description
A fun and engaging DIY craft for Thanksgiving that allows you to capture your child’s handprints and turn them into colorful turkey feathers.
Ingredients
- White ceramic or plastic plate
- Non-toxic acrylic paints (red, orange, yellow, brown)
- Paintbrushes (varied sizes)
- Paper towels
- Small bowl for rinsing brushes
- Pallet or paper plate for paint mixing
- Optional: Mod Podge (for sealing)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Lay down newspaper or an old tablecloth to protect your surfaces and gather all your materials within reach.
- Base Coat (Optional): If desired, apply a base coat of white paint for a clean look. Allow it to dry completely.
- Create the Handprint Feathers: Choose one hand for tracing each child’s handprint. Paint the palm and fingers with various colors (red, orange, yellow). Press the hand onto the plate, allowing the fingers to fan out. Repeat for additional handprints. Use a paintbrush to refine any edges if needed.
- Add the Turkey Features: Once the handprints are dry, paint a turkey body at the base of the handprints using brown paint. With a fine tip brush, add eyes, a beak, and a wattle.
- Finishing Touches: Allow the plate to dry for several hours. Optionally, apply a layer of Mod Podge to seal the paint and enhance durability.
