Ingredients
- Pipe cleaners (white or clear)
- Borax (found in the laundry aisle)
- Water
- A glass jar or bowl
- String or fishing line
- A pencil or stick
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Shape the Snowflakes: Twist pipe cleaners together to form a snowflake shape.
- Heat Water: Boil about 2 cups of water and mix in 3 tablespoons of Borax until dissolved.
- Attach the Snowflake: Tie string around the center of the snowflake.
- Lower into Solution: Attach the other end to a pencil or stick and suspend in the solution.
- Wait for Crystals: Let sit undisturbed for 6-24 hours.
- Remove and Rinse: Take out the snowflake, rinse with cold water, and let dry completely.
Notes
For colored crystals, add food coloring; experiment with different snowflake designs and layering for thicker crystals.
