Description

A fun and educational indoor activity to create beautiful crystal snowflakes using simple materials. Perfect for family bonding during winter days!

Ingredients

  • Borax (1 cup)
  • Water (2 cups, boiling)
  • Pipe cleaners (white or colored)
  • String
  • A pencil or wooden stick
  • A glass jar (wide-mouth)
  • Scissors
  • Optional: food coloring or glitter for decoration

Instructions

  1. Twist the pipe cleaners into snowflake shapes.
  2. In a bowl or large jar, mix 1 cup of borax with 2 cups of boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  3. If using food coloring or glitter, add it to the solution.
  4. Tie the string to the snowflake and attach the other end to a pencil or stick.
  5. Lower the snowflake into the borax solution, ensuring it is submerged without touching the jar.
  6. Allow the jar to sit undisturbed for 6-8 hours or overnight for crystals to form.
  7. Carefully remove the snowflake and let it dry on a paper towel.

Notes

You can experiment with different colored pipe cleaners and shapes for unique designs. If the snowflake doesn’t form well, ensure the borax is fully dissolved and let it sit longer if needed.
