Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 cups of sugar (for sugar crystals) or 3 cups of Epsom salt (for Epsom crystals)
  • A saucepan
  • A wooden spoon
  • Clean glass jar or container
  • String or a popsicle stick (for hanging)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Stove for heating

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a gentle boil.
  2. Gradually add your sugar or Epsom salt to the boiling water, stirring continuously until completely dissolved.
  3. Once dissolved, take the saucepan off the stove and let the solution cool for a few minutes.
  4. If using food coloring, stir it in for a vibrant effect.
  5. Carefully pour the hot solution into your glass jar or container.
  6. Tie the string or place the popsicle stick across the top of the jar, ensuring it dips into the solution without touching the bottom.
  7. Place your jar in a safe, undisturbed area and allow the crystals to grow for 24-48 hours.
