Brighten up your windows with eco-friendly DIY colorful bioplastic suncatchers using simple materials.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
- Food coloring (assorted colors)
- Cookie sheet or oven-safe mold
- Wax paper
- Straws (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, mix together the water, cornstarch, and vinegar.
- Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture thickens to a gel-like consistency.
- Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
- Divide the mixture into separate bowls and add food coloring, mixing until well distributed.
- Line a cookie sheet with wax paper or use individual molds, then pour the colored mixture into the molds, filling each to about 1/2 inch thick.
- If desired, use a straw to punch holes into the top of each suncatcher before it sets completely.
- Let the suncatchers dry for at least 24 hours or bake at 200°F for about 30 minutes to expedite drying.
Notes
Experiment with different food coloring combinations and shapes. Use glitter or small beads for added sparkle.
